MUARIANS BOLEH!:
Our CP plan is special, just like our coffee

I REFER to the article "What makes true-blue Muarians tick" (NST, June 13).

Something more contemporary, rather than of historical significance, that Muarians, particularly residents of Taman Sri Maharani in Muar, are proud of is that we were the first residential taman in Johor -- perhaps even Malaysia -- to adopt, implement and make a success of the Rakan Cop and Community Policing (CP) programmes.

The Muar police chief, in launching the CP programme last Friday, in Taman Petama Indah, Sungai Abong, said the Rakan Cop and CP programmes had succeeded in reducing the crime rate in Muar, as the police were energised and inspired by the support and cooperation of local residents through these programmes.

Residents of Taman Sri Maharani are proud in having been able to play a positive role in contributing to crime prevention and reduction by embracing the Rakan Cop and CP concepts through a better and more friendly working relationship with Muar police, and then proactively convincing other residential areas to adopt them.

The Johor police chief, who was much impressed, even recommended the secretary of our Residents' Committee to give talks at the Police Training Academy on the practical aspects of how CP works, and also to other interested residential areas here and elsewhere.
So, Johan Jaaffar is right in that many Muarians, past and present, have made positive contributions to the growth of our nation in various ways.

By the way, besides asam pedas and mee bandung, Muar is well-known for its otak-otak and special brand of coffee powder, which are a must-buy for tourists, especially those from the south. Vive la Muar!
