MUARIANS BOLEH!:
Our CP plan is special, just like our coffee

I REFER to the article "What makes true-blue Muarians tick" (NST, June 13).

Something more contemporary, rather than of historical significance, that Muarians, particularly residents of Taman Sri Maharani in Muar, are proud of is that we were the first residential taman in Johor -- perhaps even Malaysia -- to adopt, implement and make a success of the Rakan Cop and Community Policing (CP) programmes.

The Muar police chief, in launching the CP programme last Friday, in Taman Petama Indah, Sungai Abong, said the Rakan Cop and CP programmes had succeeded in reducing the crime rate in Muar, as the police were energised and inspired by the support and cooperation of local residents through these programmes.

Residents of Taman Sri Maharani are proud in having been able to play a positive role in contributing to crime prevention and reduction by embracing the Rakan Cop and CP concepts through a better and more friendly working relationship with Muar police, and then proactively convincing other residential areas to adopt them.

The Johor police chief, who was much impressed, even recommended the secretary of our Residents' Committee to give talks at the Police Training Academy on the practical aspects of how CP works, and also to other interested residential areas here and elsewhere.
So, Johan Jaaffar is right in that many Muarians, past and present, have made positive contributions to the growth of our nation in various ways.

By the way, besides asam pedas and mee bandung, Muar is well-known for its otak-otak and special brand of coffee powder, which are a must-buy for tourists, especially those from the south. Vive la Muar!

Say No To Vandalism

Together We Unite
Six housing estates within KRT Jalan Bakri had worked hand- in- hand with MPM & IPD MUAR to curb the problem of vandalism within the area.

The meeting was organised by Biro Keselamatan of KRT Jalan Bakri. It was chaired by Tuan Hj.Wahab bin Ridwan,YDP Majlis Perbandaran Muar, attended by IPD Muar Commercial crime division Mr.Anuar,MPM Enforcement officer Mr.Khairul, municipal councillors Ms.Helen Fong, Datuk Goh Kim Huat and Mr.Tan Sio Joo.

Those responsible do not any respect even to temples and Gods!

MPM Councillor Helen Fong hopes our residents will monitor their housing estates by removing the "eyesores" in order to keep the housing estates clean and organised.

Public participation is strongly encouraged because we just can not expect 8 officers employed by MPM to go round the clock just to remove illegal banners.

Can you spot the Joker politician in Batik shirt? Before or even after 308, he had never assisted us the local residents in one way or another.

But on that "auspicious" day, he came uninvited, gate-crashed our closed-door event arguing that he is the true people representative of this area.

He had curved a good name for himself by targeting on peoples' functions, tapping on peoples' platforms, or the Ang-Moh-Lang say "peggy beg" on others resources for free (and cheap) publicity.

Bankrupt of ideas. Sad story, sorry for Bakri.

The owner of this house is a doctor.
A doctor is a highly educated person, a professional but not this fellow.
An illegal banner hanging infront of his house for ages (I helped to remove twice) but he never gave a damn.
Where is the civic values of our Malaysians?
If I were to be his dad, I would consider to send him back to kindergarden.

Tuan Hj.Wahab was both sad and angry. The costs of removing the banners is always a waste of public funds, which could be better used for other meaningful projects for all peace-loving Muarians.
